Explore a career in science and care with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) degree from Lincoln Memorial University! The tests performed in clinical laboratories by medical laboratory scientists (formerly "medical technologists") work to help physicians better diagnose and treat pathological conditions. At LMU, our MLS program is a "two-plus-two" program, meaning that you will start by completing two years of general education courses in collateral science requirements and apply for entry into the MLS program during your junior year. During your junior and senior years in the program, you will receive hands-on clinical training. If you are a high school graduate with no college credits, you can complete this program in four years (four spring and four fall semesters) with no summer sessions necessary. If you have completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with all collateral science courses, you will only need 42 credit hours of MEDLS didactic and clinical classes to meet the BS MLS degree requirements.

As a medical laboratory scientist, you will work and collaborate very closely with medical clinicians to diagnose and monitor disease processes and the effectiveness of therapy. It is estimated that up to 70% of all decisions concerning a patient's diagnosis, treatment, hospital admission and discharge are based on the results of the tests performed by medical laboratory scientists.
During your time in the LMU MLS program, you will receive a rigorous learning experience in both the didactic and clinical areas, including microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, toxicology, and molecular diagnostics.

Before you apply for admission into the MLS program, you must first be chosen for regular admission at LMU. Apply to the University using the LMU portal.
Please note, admission into LMU does not guarantee admission to the MLS program. Being admitted into the MLS program is a competitive process, and factors for being considered for admission include:
The MLS Admissions Committee at LMU (comprised of faculty members of the Medical Laboratory Science Department) will review your application materials and make the academic admission recommendations to the Program Director. The director will then notify you of your admission status.
Note: Any omission, false or misleading information in your application process will result in your not being considered for admission, and if you have already been admitted, you will be dismissed from the MLS program.
In the years since the MLS program began, we have had 29 consecutive classes with a 100% passing rate on the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) exam with both individual categorical and composite scores that far surpass the national average for university-based NAACLS accredited medical laboratory science programs. Those 29 classes also achieved a 100% employment rate in the medical laboratory science field within seven days of graduation.
Once you have completed our MLS program, not only are there an abundance of job opportunities awaiting you, but the majority of these positions offer a competitive salary for fresh, new scientists. As a professional medical laboratory scientist in the United States, the average salary available to you is roughly $70,457 with the lower end being $56,955 and the high end being $80,851.
